ROCKWALL, TEXAS ( May 8, 2012) In only its 5^th year of existence, Rockwall-based, Impact Volleyball Club has qualified the Under-18 Girls team to compete at the prestigious 2012 USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in Columbus, Ohio this July.

Impact Volleyball has several youth girls’ teams competing at the highest levels in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and the nation.  After multiple Impact Volleyball Club team’s fell just short of qualifying for the 2012 Junior National Championships through qualifier tournaments in Spokane, Atlanta, Minneapolis and the Lone Star Classic in Dallas; Travis Ferguson, Director of Impact Volleyball, wasn’t sure this would be the year the program would reach its goal of qualifying a team for Nationals.

“Our athletes and coaches have worked extremely hard this season and have been competitive in each and every tournament so we were disappointed to get so close on multiple occasions,” said Ferguson. “We understand how difficult qualifying for Nationals is due to the high level of competition in the North Texas Region and across the country.”

It was only fitting that last weekend at the USA Volleyball North Texas Region Regional Bid Championships, Impact 18 Highline, coached by Ferguson, finally accomplished their goal. The team found itself in the Gold Bracket on Sunday. After defeating Advance Performance 18 Nfinity and Skyline Roshambo Black in rounds one and two of the Gold Bracket, the team played to earn a bid to Nationals in the Regional semifinals, but lost a hard fought match to Victory Elite Black. The next opportunity to earn a bid was in the 3^rd place match against Instinct Lions National, but once again the team fell short.  This landed the girls in 4^th place in the Regional Bid Tournament and it appeared that Impact would have to wait another year to reach their goal to qualify for Nationals. But fate had other plans. Through the trickle down process of the distribution of bids, USA Volleyball allocated another bid to the North Texas Region’s 18 and Under Division.  Ferguson received the call from the North Texas Region office informing him that the team had earned a bid and would be competing at Nationals in Columbus this summer.

“When I got the call from the region office that we had earned a bid, I wasn’t sure what to say,” said Ferguson.  “When you set a goal you work hard to achieve it, you don’t really plan for the reaction when the goal is in hand.  I couldn’t wait to tell the girls and their families that they’ve done it and we’re going to Nationals!”

“It means the world to me to be committed for 6 years working so hard and to finally be good enough and to prove to everyone what our team was capable of,” said 18 Highline setter and Captain Becca Floyd.

The 2012 USA Volleyball Junior National Championships will be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio on June 28 – July 1.  The weeklong event will feature the nation’s top teams and the premier location for players to showcase their talents in front of college scouts.
