Director – Travis Ferguson


Travis Ferguson – 16 Highline / Club Director

Philosophy: ” I believe a team adopts the personality of its coach, and this is a great responsibility indeed. Sound fundamental instruction is only secondary to the atmosphere that a coach creates in his/her gym. Hard work and tenacity in practive and competition are at the core of every great athlete and coach”

Playing Experience: Travis was a three time varsity starter at Royal High School in Simi Valley, California. During that tenure he led his team to three district championships, two state championships, and one state runner-up. He was named district MVP twice and earned the State Player of the Year Award in 1992. He was named to the Top 50 high school recruits in 1992 and trained with the junior national team in Colorado Springs. After high school, Travis was the starting setter at UC San Diego and then transferred to Cal State Northridge, where he started as the setter of the 4th ranked Division 1 Matadors in 1995.

Coaching Experience: Travis coached at his high school alma mater from 1993 to 2006. He was the head boys varsity coach 2001 to 2006, leading multiple district championship teams, as well as, two state champions. Travis was the head girls volleyball coach at Royal High School from 1998-2003. He coached multiple district championship teams, and his team took the state championship in 1998. He coached the 15 Highline team for IVC last season. Travis’ former players have gone on to receive scholarships in many Division 1 programs including UCLA, USC, Syracuse, UCSB, Cal State Northridge, Pepperdine, BYU and Cal Berkley. His players have achieved recognition as NCAA Division 1 champions, as well as, international professional volleyball athletes. Travis was also invited to coach in the prestigious Marv Dunphy Volleyball Camps at Pepperdine University.

Travis and his wife Melissa have been married for more than ten years. All three of their children, Amanda, Noah, and Ryan go to school in Rockwall. Melissa taught fourth grade at Amy Parks Elementary in 2009 and will begin teaching kindergarten at Celia Hays in the fall.
